Jujutsu Kaisen Anime Season 2

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Review/Overview

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 started airing on July 6. The first 5 episodes of the anime cover Gojo’s past work. Chronologically Gojo’s Past Arc takes place even before the Cursed Child Arc which was adapted into the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie.  We saw Yuta’s background story and the death of Geto Suguru in that movie.

I know a lot of you are complaining about the slight downgrade of animation quality. But also keep in mind that there was a change in the directorial panel of the anime. So it is expected to see some changes in the visuals.

In Gojo’s Past Arc, it was shown how Geto turned into an infamous villain from a well-moraled S-ranked Jujutsu student. It was hard to see Gojo losing the one best friend he had. The long-awaited fight between Fushiguro Toji and Gojo Satoru was animated in the first part of the season. It was without a doubt a piece of art. We also get to see cute Kid Megumi.

After a 3 week hiatus, part two of season two has started. Part two will cover the full Shibuya arc. Let’s get into more detail about the Shibuya Arc.

Jujutsu Kaisen Shibuya Arc Review

Jujutsu Kaisen Shibuya Arc Review

The Shibuya Arc contains chapters 79 to 137 of the manga. With a total of 58 chapters, it is the longest arc of the manga and it is also the most important arc of the show.

So what happens in the Shibuya Arc? The main significance of the Shibuya Arc is Gojo being sealed by Pseudo Geto. Whoever watched Jujutsu Kaisen 0 already knows that Geto is dead. So the Geto in the current arc is either an imposter shape-shifting as Geto or someone has taken over Geto’s dead body and controlling it. The truth is the latter. And this is where the true antagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen takes the spotlight. You thought it was Sukuna all along, didn’t you? Well, you could not be more wrong.

One thing you need to know about the Jujutsu Kaisen Shibuya arc is that Akutami Gege does not hold back when it comes to killing off characters. In the current arc, humans are getting murdered left and right by cursed spirits. Gojo’s nonchalance at it is surprisingly fascinating and terrifying. And though Gojo looks like a carefree arrogant guy, he is a maniac when it comes to war.

Instead of the whole story, let me tell you how Shibuya Arc ends since you will need to know it if you are already so eager about season three.

Pseudo Geto is a cursed spirit named Kenjaku controlling Geto’s corpse. Kenjaku is almost as old as Ryomen Sukuna and he has been planning for a millennia whatever he plans to achieve.

In terms of villainous characteristics, Kenjaku is way more complex than Sukuna. At the moment, his plan is to seal Gojo away to make his path smoother. In the 90th chapter of the manga, Gojo gets sealed and in that chapter, he comes to know about Pseudo Geto, and you will get to know that out of anybody Kenjaku could make use of, why he chose it to be Suguru’s.

After Gojo gets sealed away, the whole Shibuya goes berserk. There are a total of eighteen battles among various cursed spirits and curse users in Shibuya Arc. Sadly, you will not get to see Sukuna in action until the last part of the Arc.

After Sukuna is fed all the fingers, he kills Jogo and then fights Megumi. After Sukuna hands over the control to Yuji of his body, Yuji and Nobara face Mahito. The Shibuya Arc ends with Mahito performing his infamous Idle transfiguration on Nobara. Whether Nobara is dead or alive is still not confirmed.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Release Date

If there are no more future hiatus, the current season will finish airing on December 28th, 2023. That means we can not expect season 3 until 2025. I think it will be a Fall anime. But since there has been no official news, nothing can be confirmed.

Which Arc Will Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Cover?

Analyzing the manga pacing with the anime episodes, an episode covers 2 to 4 manga chapters. Season two will be turning a total of 73 chapters of manga material into 23 episodes. If the legacy continues, we can expect season 3 as a 20+ episode season too. And if that is the case, season three will adapt at least three to two and a half arcs in the line.

Here is a brief introduction of the next three arcs in order—

Itadori’s Extermination Arc

Itadori's Extermination Arc

This arc covers 7 chapters from 137 to 143. We can expect 2 episodes from this arc.

Okkotsu Yuta will be making his entry in this arc and he will be appointed as Yuji’s executioner. The Culling game will begin from this arc.

Perfect Preparation Arc

Perfect Preparation Arc

From chapter 144 to 158 is the Perfect Preparation Arc. With a total of 15 chapters, we can expect at most 5 episodes from this arc.

Tsukumo Yuki, Choso, Yuji, and Megumi will seek Tengen-sama’s knowledge on the current situation of the Jujutsu world. Tengen-sama enlightens them about Kenjaku’s history and his goals. He also tells them how to unseal Gojo from the prison realm.

Zenin Maki on the other hand loses her cursed energy completely as a result of a tragic sacrifice and achieves heavenly restriction as the same as Fushiguro Toji. Now, unstoppable, she pulls an Uchiha Itachi on her clan, meaning the sole survivor of the Zenin clan now is Megumi and Maki alone.

Culling Game Arc

The next 63 chapters (159 to 221) are the Culling game Arc, the second most important arc of the Manga.

Kenjaku divided entire Japan into ten districts and released many cursed spirits, cursed object-fed humans, and new and reincarnated evil curse-users throughout these divisions.

The simple rule of this game is that one needs to keep fighting and winning to stay alive. There are a total of fifteen battles in the Culling Atc. The cherry on top, you will get to see Kenjaku’s domain expansion and Tsukumo Yuki, the only female S-ranked Jujutsu sorcerer in history, in action.

Sukuna will leave Yuji alone and will get a New vessel. Gojo will be released at the very end of this arc leading to the initiation of the next arc, the Shinjuku Showdown Arc.
